Supmea SUP-pH6001 Plastic-Body Industrial pH Sensor

In open-channel wastewater flumes, mixing tanks, and aquaculture basins, suspended solids and floating debris present an immediate physical hazard to glass-body pH electrodes. The SUP-pH6001 replaces fragile glass housings with a high-density, impact-resistant ABS polymer body while retaining a high-performance annular Teflon (PTFE) reference junction. Equipped with an integrated PT1000 RTD for reliable temperature compensation and dual 3/4" NPT threads, this sensor is built for direct submersible or inline pipe installations where physical survival is just as critical as electrochemical accuracy.

Mechanical Resilience in High-Impact Basins

Glass-body sensors are inherently unsuited for high-velocity streams or basins containing heavy mechanical agitation, where loose debris can instantly shatter an exposed glass shaft. The SUP-pH6001 mitigates this risk by encasing the entire sensor assembly in a rugged ABS polymer sleeve.

To protect the sensitive glass measuring bulb itself, the ABS housing features integrated protective struts. These struts act as a mechanical guard against impacts from large particulates while still allowing maximum volumetric process flow across the measuring glass. This physical shielding drastically reduces sensor replacement costs caused by mechanical damage.

The Annular Teflon Liquid Junction Advantage

In municipal sewage treatment, agricultural runoff, and industrial dosing loops, standard ceramic-wick reference junctions suffer from rapid blinding due to grease, biological films, and chemical scaling. Once the wick is blocked, the reference cell loses electrical continuity with the process, resulting in severe measurement drift or complete signal failure.

The SUP-pH6001 solves this by using a high-surface-area annular PTFE (Teflon) liquid junction. The hydrophobic nature of the PTFE ring actively repels organic contaminants and heavy sludges. Because the junction covers a wide circumferential area, the sensor maintains a stable reference potential even when partially fouled, extending calibration cycles and preventing unscheduled instrument downs.

Key Performance Specifications

  • Integrated PT1000 RTD Element: Positioned internally near the glass measuring membrane to deliver rapid, low-drift temperature compensation directly to your pH transmitter, preventing slope errors as process temperatures shift.
  • Dual 3/4" NPT Thread Configuration: Features tapered 3/4" NPT threads on both the front and rear of the ABS body. This dual-ended threading provides exceptional installation flexibility, allowing the sensor to be mounted directly inline inside a process pipe or threaded onto the end of an immersion conduit for deep basin submersion.
  • Ag/AgCl Reference with Solid Dielectric: Utilizes a robust silver/silver chloride reference couple paired with a highly stable solid dielectric gel, which prevents reference "poisoning" from heavy metals, sulfides, and active process halides.
  • 10-Metre Low-Noise Shielded Cable: Supplied with a high-impedance, shielded cable designed to protect the micro-volt signals of the pH measuring circuit from EMI/RFI interference generated by nearby pumps, VSDs, and agitators.

Critical Field Installation & Maintenance Guidelines

To ensure metrological integrity and avoid early mechanical failures, field technicians must adhere to the following installation protocols:

  • The 15° Angle Rule: Like all combined pH probes, the SUP-pH6001 must be installed at an angle of at least 15° above the horizontal plane (with the electrode tip pointing down). Installing the sensor horizontally or upside-down allows internal air bubbles to migrate into the glass tip, breaking the internal electrical path and causing the transmitter to drift off-scale.
  • ABS Thread Torque Management: Unlike stainless steel or metal fittings, ABS plastic threads can crack if over-torqued into a metal female port. Technicians must apply adequate PTFE thread tape and hand-tighten the sensor, followed by no more than 1 to 1.5 additional turns with an appropriate wrench. Do not use liquid pipe dopes, as they can degrade the ABS plastic or coat the reference junction.
  • Reference Hydration: If a process line is drained for maintenance, the pH sensor must not be allowed to dry out. Exposure to air for extended periods dehydrates the sensitive gel layer on the glass bulb, causing sluggish response times or permanent calibration loss. Always cover the sensor with the protective cap filled with 3.3 M KCl solution during storage. Never use demineralised or distilled water for storage.
