The Bante Flow-Through Cell (CON-FC) is a precision accessory designed to minimize measurement uncertainty in critical water analysis. By creating a controlled, closed-loop environment, this device eliminates external variables that compromise data integrity, such as atmospheric contamination and thermal gradients.
Constructed from durable, clear plastic, the cell allows sample water to flow directly across the sensor surface. This setup is essential for achieving metrology-grade accuracy in low-conductivity applications, ensuring that calibration and measurement results are both repeatable and traceable to the true state of the sample.
Why Use a Flow-Through Cell?
1. Minimizing Uncertainty from Atmospheric Interference
In open-beaker measurements, the interaction between the sample and the air introduces significant uncertainty. For ultrapure water, atmospheric CO2 absorption rapidly alters conductivity and pH, leading to drifting, unreliable readings.
-
The Metrological Advantage: The CON-FC isolates the sample stream, effectively removing the "atmosphere" variable. This ensures that the measured value reflects the true properties of the process water, not a degraded sample, enabling valid measurements down to 0.05 µS/cm.
2. Reducing Thermal Uncertainty
Temperature is the single largest source of error in most electrochemical measurements. In a static beaker, thermal gradients can exist between the sensor and the sample.
-
The Metrological Advantage: A continuous flow ensures the sensor and sample remain in dynamic thermal equilibrium. This maximizes the accuracy of the automatic temperature compensation (ATC), significantly reducing the uncertainty budget associated with temperature effects.
3. Sample Integrity & Traceability
-
The Metrological Advantage: By using a closed loop, you prevent cross-contamination from dust or previous samples. This is vital for validating cleaning protocols or when sample volume is limited and high-value, ensuring that every measurement is representative and defensible.
Ideal Applications
- Ultrapure Water Systems: Verifying loop quality with the CON-0.1 electrode.
- Power Plants: Boiler feed water and condensate monitoring.
- Pharmaceuticals: Sterile sampling loops and water-for-injection (WFI) testing.
- Environmental Field Work: Low-flow groundwater sampling to prevent aeration.
- Continuous Process Monitoring: Side-stream analysis of reaction vessels.
Compatibility
This cell is designed to accommodate any standard 12mm diameter laboratory electrodes.
- Conductivity: Specifically optimized for Bante CON-0.1 and CON-1 sensors.
- pH & ORP: Compatible with standard 12mm cylindrical probes (e.g., Bante P11, E201) for sealed analysis.
- Dissolved Oxygen: Suitable for standard DO probes with 12mm bodies.

Expert Tip: Setup for Success
- Flow Direction: Always pump fluid from the bottom up. This effectively flushes air bubbles out of the top port, ensuring the sensor remains fully submerged and bubble-free.
- Tubing: Connect the sample source to the bottom inlet and direct the top outlet to a waste container or return loop.
